Clinical Studies of Palpable Abdominal Masses which were Misdiagnosed Per - Operatively

Abstract
Twenty nine patients with abdominal masses which were misdiagnosed pre-operatively were reported. Four cases of tuberculous Peritonitis were misdiagnosed as various neoplasms pre-operatively. All of these cases were young women with sterility. Three cases of abdominal lymphoma were misdiagnosed as retroperitoneal tumor, colon cancer and tuberculous peritnnitis respectively. Three neuroblastoma cases were misdiagnosed as hepatoma, stomach cancer, and tuberculous peritonitis, respectively. Three neuroblastoma cases were misdiagnosed as hepatoma, stomach cancer, and tuberculous peritonitis. A case of pancreatic pseudocyst and a case of leukemic splenomegaly were misdiagnosed as subcapsular splenic ruptures. A case with heterotopia of the right kidney was misdiagnosde as tuberculous mesenteric lymphadenitis, and a case of choledochal cyst was misdiagnosed as a retroperitoneal neuroblastoma. Four cases of inflammatory mass including abscess were misdiagnosed preoperatively as neoplasm of colon, peptic ulcer perforation, amebic granuloma, and retroperitoneal tumor. Two metastatic hepatic cancer were misdiagnosed as empyema of gallbladder and chronic cholecystitis. Two metastatic cancer of mesenterium were misdiagnosed as colonic cancer, tuberculous peritonitis, two cancer of gallbladder were misdiagnosed as cholelithiasis. Remaining five cases were proved to be hepatic hemangioma, pancraetic cancer with metastasis, renal cancer, retroperitoneal teratoma which were misdiagnosed as choledochal cyst, intestinal obstruction, tuberculous peritonitis, pancreatic pseudocyst respectively.
